This colorful T-shirt is a 21st century commemoratation of the 150th anniversary of Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation, which went into full effect on January 1, 1863.

Featuring Lincoln's face drawn in a colorful rainbow of neon and pastel colors, this shirt is intended to show the effect Lincoln's proclamation had on this nation and its future. By signing it, he guaranteed that future America would be a diverse country, with people of all races living together. Lincoln himself and future generations of Americans would embrace this ideal of equality, extending it to more and more people in the future. This process - represented by a broken chain in the upper left (to represent freedom from slavery) and faces of different colors below it (representing diversity and the different kinds of people that became free) continues today.

To the right of Lincoln are the words, "Thenceforward and forever free", which come straight from Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation. Also shown are some of the things Lincoln pushed for after its issuance - things like public schools for newly freed African Americans, black voting rights, and citizenship. While Lincoln was sadly killed before he could fully implement some of these ideas, the Emancipation Proclamation laid the groundwork - and the necessity - for them to be implemented in the future.

On the bottom of the shirt is Lincoln's full signature, which he used on the Emancipation Proclamation in place of his more typical "A. Lincoln" signature due to its importance to him. Lincoln said that if his name went down in history, it would be for this act!

The design is screen printed onto a navy blue, 100% cotton, American Apparel unisex T-shirt. Since Lincoln freed the slaves with his Proclamation, this shirt is sweatshop free! The design is printed on the bottom front of the shirt as opposed to the middle on all of the sizes to give the appearance that the whole front of the shirt is printed.

This T-shirt is available in adult small, medium, large, X-large, and 2X-large. In addition to navy, it is also available in black, blue, and red. Pictures show adult X-large size T-shirt. T-shirt shown is a sample; you will receive one that has never been worn. These T-shirts tend to run a little smaller than normal; if you're concerned about this, order the next size up.

Washing instructions: Machine wash and rinse inside out, in cold water, in the gentle cycle, with mild detergent. No bleach. Hang dry (recommended) or low/no heat in the dryer if necessary.
